AGM 2017
As I wish you a Happy New Year it is remarkable to see that another year has passed, and with it another series of cross country events. We have run a series of competitive safaris and the Scottish “Borders”Hill
Rally, and this means that our next event is the Club’s Annual General Meeting This will be held in The Stables at The Inn, Crook of Devon, Perthshire at 14.00 on Saturday 11th February 2017. This will start with the Annual Dinner, gathering at 12.00 for 12.30, and then move into the formal meeting, but with plenty of opportunities along the way to catch up with fellow members! We will be eating from The Inn’s varied menu, and to help us plan numbers it would be useful if you could let the Secretary know if you plan to attend.
All current and prospective members are invited, and this will be an excellent opportunity to hear about what has been going on in the club in 2016, and the plans for 2017 (and 2018!), as well as to elect the committee to guide the club through the next year.
Available on-line are:
We would appreciate it if you could complete a membership form with your up-todate information so we always have the most current contact details for you. This can be brought with you to the AGM or posted (address on the form), or emailed to membership@scottish-hillrally.co.uk.
The strength of the club is its membership, and we are always looking for people to join the committee! This is an ideal opportunity to help shape the future of the club, and join in the organisation of some of the highest profile Cross Country events in Scotland. It can be rewarding and fun… and if you think you might be interested please feel free to contact any member of the committee for a chat! If you wish to nominate yourself or another member of the club please complete the attached nomination form, making sure you have the agreement of the nominated person, and return it to the Secretary before 28th January 2017
If you have any proposals or topics you would like discussed at the AGM, these must be submitted no later than 14 days before the event, so they should be with the club secretary no later than Saturday 28th January 2017. Proposals should be:
- Clearly worded
- quote the relevant rules or regulations
- be clear in what you want to achieve and why
- show the name of the proposer.
All expressions of interest in attending, nominations and proposals should be sent to the club secretary: Mr. Charles Denny, Darnaway, Castleton Place, Braemar, Aberdeenshire AB35 5ZQ, or via email to secretary@scottish-hillrally.co.uk.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries, suggestions for issues to raise at the meeting or would like to chat in advance of the AGM. I look forward to seeing you next month
Rupert Hine, Club chair.

Borders 2016
Hill Rally – 19th & 20th November 2016
Following the success of the 2015 Scottish Borders Hill Rally the Organising Committee and the Scottish Hill Rally Club (SHR Club Ltd) were delighted to welcome people back to the 2016 event. The event was the final round of both the Hill Rally Championship, and the Defender Challenge by Bowler Motorsport, and we were delighted to be able to welcome competitors from both championships to Southern Scotland.
Set in the picturesque area around St. John’s Town of Dalry, in Dumfries and Galloway, we were very fortunate to have been invited back to our regular venue at Forrest Estate. This private forestry site provides for fast graded Cat A routes, with something a bit more challenging along the way.
We had planned on splitting the night stage and replacing it with two slightly shorter stages to help with the smooth and safe running after dark, however our plans got kyboshed in the planning, and competitors ended up with even more night-time competition. We had an earlier start on Saturday, and a little later on Sunday morning – which helped us get the marshals in at a civilised hour, whilst still providing 100 competitive miles, and kept the Awards ceremony at approximately the same time on the Sunday.
The event remained at National B – so a Clubman Licence was the minimum required, with a wide tyre choice – provided they are listed in the All Terrain or Mud Terrain lists in the Blue Book. The entry fee of £450 was discounted for early entries and to recognise our commitment to attract new competitors into Hill Rallying we continued our discount for novice crews. There was no public highway sections, so no requirement for road tax or MOT.
Following the popularity of the 2015 event we continued with the slightly larger maximum entry of 50 – the absolute maximum we can fit into the central service area. The same high quality results and local catering services were also on-hand.
The Supplementary Regulations are available for download, and the online entry form was available from the 1st of August.
