The Scottish Summer Hill Rally announces The Country Food Trust as its Official Charity for 2023

The Scottish Hill Rally, an exciting motorsports event, has announced its partnership with The Country Food Trust, a registered charity that provides free, nutritious high protein meals to people experiencing food poverty. The partnership will take place during the Summer 2023 event on June 17th-18th at Thirlestane Castle, Lauder in the Scottish Borders.

With over 13.1 million people in the UK facing food poverty, The Country Food Trust is focused on providing high protein, low-fat meals to those in need. Their current menu includes; pheasant curry, venison bolognese, and pheasant casserole, supplied in 300g retort pouches and 2kg catering packs, both with a shelf life of one year from manufacturing and no refrigeration required. Additionally, the charity donates frozen meat to charities with cooking facilities, enabling them to create nutritious meals and teach beneficiaries about healthy eating, as well as community kitchens that provide free hot meals within the community.

Since its inception in 2015, The Country Food Trust has donated over 2.8 million meals to people in need, and the Scottish Hill Rally provides an excellent platform to raise awareness of their work. The rally’s route, which spans a minimum of 58 stage miles and just over 84 road miles, is contained within the picturesque areas of Lauder, Stow, and Galashiels, making it perfect for an exhilarating hill rally experience. The rally concludes on Sunday and coincides with the BVAC Classic at Thirlestane Castle, a Festival of Motoring, making it a perfect weekend event for rally enthusiasts and foodies alike.

The Country Food Trust CEO SJ Hunt commented:

We are very excited to be heading to The Scottish Summer Hill Rally this June. We are all aware that the cost of living is rising exponentially, pushing more families into food poverty. Our work is therefore vital more than ever. Having the support of The Scottish Hill Rally Club will further boost our profile in the Scottish Borders and encourage further support for those in need.

Fraser Wenseth of the Scottish Hill Rally Club said:

The Scottish Hill Rally is an event that draws people from all walks of life, and we are thrilled to be bringing together some of the best cross-country crews and cars from the UK and around the world for this exhilarating event in the Borders. We are equally excited to support The Country Food Trust, a charity that transforms surplus game into nutritious meals for people facing food poverty across the country. Their work is truly remarkable, and we hope to raise their profile and generate vital funds during the upcoming summer event.”

On Saturday four of the organising committee headed down to Forest Estate the venue for the 2022 Scottish “Borders” hill-rally.

We did a recce of the main stages and mapped the liaison routes. after 8 hours and 35 miles of driving we have got some routes in mind, it is now up to the route designer, the land owner, the land Manager and the organising Group to finalise where we are allowed to “play”.
